If ever two American teens needed a "new attitude,” it is Jiffy and Lou, the wild, irreverent cartoon characters featured in each issue of New Attitude. They first appeared in the winter of 1993 and have been a regular feature ever since. More than one reader has written us to say that the duo is their favorite part of the magazine.
One question that has been posed is "Are these home schoolers?" Well, no...at least not until now. Last issue, Lou broke new ground and went interactive; we let New Attitude readers vote on the outcome of the storyline. The question was, "Should Lou Home School?" Readers gave their answers by phone, postcard and e-mail. And the final decision? Lou is going to home school.
A rather large majority won with the “Yes” vote. "Ruin his life!" one reader jokingly added to his vote for Lou to home school. "I think he should home school," wrote one reader, "because it would make Jiffy & Lou the first home-school cartoon."
But not everyone thought Lou would make a good home schooler. Most "No" voters didn't give a reason, but one reader explained, "If ya reform the guy, Jiffy will be the only funny dude!" Evidently he thought home schooling would have a calming effect on Lou.
Don't count on it.
