“Marriage teaches us that even the most intimate human companionship cannot satisfy the deepest places of the heart. Our hearts are lonely ‘til they rest in Him.”
-Elisabeth Elliot, twice widowed, in her book Loneliness, quoted in Lady in Waiting

“If a man chose me for external qualities, his destiny would be hugging a prune. But, if a man chooses me for my internal beauty, his destiny will be unfading beauty even in the twilight years of marriage, because of Jesus.” -Jackie Kendall in Lady in Waiting
“To marry a prince you must first become a princess.”
-Debby Jones & Jackie Kendall in Lady in Waiting
“God has called me to live now. He wants me to realize my full potential as a man right now, to be thankful about where I am, and to enjoy it to the fullest. I have a strange feeling that the single person who is always wishing he were married will probably get married, discover all that is involved, and wish he were single again! He will ask himself, ‘Why didn’t I use that time for the Lord when I didn’t have so many other obligations? Why didn’t I give myself totally to Him when I was single?’”
-John Fischer in A Single Person’s Identity,
quoted in Lady in Waiting
“You can make the clock strike before its hour by putting your hand on it, but it will strike wrong. You can tear the rosebud open before its time, but you will mar its beauty. So we may spoil many a gift of blessing which God is preparing for us, by our own eager haste. He is weaving our lives and has a perfect plan for each. Let us not pull the threads!” -Unknown
“Good things come to those who wait.”
“How happy are those who know their need for God…” -Matthew 5:3, Phillips
“God has the whole film of my life in view—not just the snapshot of my present situation.” -Steve Ellisen
“Don’t spend your time trying to be a guy-pleaser; spend it trying to be a God-pleaser.” –Unknown
“When the heart submits, Jesus reigns; and when Jesus reigns, there is rest.” -J. Hudson Taylor
“My soul finds rest in God alone.” -Psalm 62:1
I wish Thy way.
But when in me myself would rise
And long for something otherwise,
Then, Holy One, take sword and spear
And slay.
-Amy Carmichael
The Rose
It is only a tiny rosebud—
A flower of God’s design:
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine.
The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I—
The flower that God opens so sweetly
In my hands would fade and die.
If I cannot unfold a rosebud,
This flower of God’s design,
Then how can I think I have the wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?
So I’ll trust in Him for His leading
Each moment of every day,
And I’ll look to Him for His guidance
Each step along the way.
For the pathway that lies before me
My Heavenly Father knows—
I’ll trust Him to unfold the moments
Just as He unfolds the rose.
