How to Preserve a Husband
This recipe is from a very old pioneer cookbook found in Northern Michigan listed under “Preserving & Pickling”!
Be careful in your selection. Do not choose the unripe young… Take only such as have been reared in a good moral atmosphere. Some insist on keeping them in a pickle, while others put them in hot water. This only makes them sour and bitter. Even poor varieties may be made sweet, tender, and good by garnishing them with patience, well sweetened with smiles and flavored with kisses to taste. Then wrap them in a mantle of charity. Keep them warm with a steady love and devotion and serve with peaches and cream. When thus prepared, they will keep for years.
Fewer marriages would skid, if more who said, “I do”…did.
Recipe for a Happy Marriage
1 cup of consideration
1 cup of courtesy
2 cupfuls of flattery carefully concealed
2 cupfuls milk of human kindness
1 gallon faith in God and each other
2 cupfuls praise
1 small pinch of in-laws
1 reasonable budget
a dash of cooperation
3 teaspoons pure extract of “I Am Sorry”
1 cup contentment
1 cup each of confidence and encouragement
2 children at least
1 large or several small hobbies
1 cup of blindness to the other’s faults
Flavor with frequent portions of recreation and a dash of happy memories. Stir well and remove any specks of jealousy, temper, or criticism. Sweeten well with portions of love and keep warm with a steady flame of devotion. Never serve with a cold shoulder or hot tongue.
Let Me Serve
Bless all I do, this day, oh Lord,
Please, may each little task
Reflect the love I have for those
Who some small favor ask. From irritations, keep me free,
Should something interrupt,
May not my hurry spoil the day
Or harsh words, peace disrupt.I ask that every task performed
Be done with care to tell
Each person I may reach today…
I love them…and how well.-Author Unknown
