Gretchie’s Quote Box: Waiting

“Love isn’t an Emotion.  It’s an irrevocable Decision.”  -Aaron Wilkinson

“How completely satisfying to turn from our limitations to a God Who has none.”

“There are basically three ways in which we wait; looking forward expectantly, holding back expectantly, and being ready and available…  Holding back expectantly is when we should hold back and let others take responsibility…  We’re usable when we’re disciplined, when we let God’s Word change us, and make us beautiful.”
in Melissa, by Eva Gibson

“True love understands, therefore it waits.”

“Love isn’t something you fall into or fall out of.  It’s something you nourish or kill.”  -Aaron Wilkinson

“For because of our faith, He has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to actually becoming all that God has had in mind or us to be.”  -Romans 5:2, TLB

“Faith alone saves, but the faith that saves is not alone.”  -John Calvin

“It never takes TRUE faith to believe in something you aren’t allowed to question and only lazy men agree to it.  However, it’s also only a slacker who uses his questioning as an excuse to not believe in anything.”
-Aaron Wilkinson

“Trust is not discovered; it is revealed.”
-Henry Blackaby

“The ultimate question for a responsible man to ask is not how he is to extricate himself heroically from the affair, but how the coming generation shall continue to live.”
-Dietrich Bonhoeffer, 1942

“Suppose there were no intelligence behind the universe.  In that case nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking.  Thought is merely the by-product of some atoms within my skull.  But if so, how can I trust my own thinking to be true?  But if I can’t trust my own thinking, of course, I can’t trust the arguments leading to atheism, and therefore, have no reason to be an atheist, or anything else.  Unless I believe in God, I can’t believe in thought, so I can never use thought to disbelieve God.”  -C.S. Lewis

“People are more concerned with their rights than their responsibilities today.”
-Frank Garlock & Kurt Woetzel, Music in the Balance

“Following the path of least resistance is what makes men and rivers crooked.”

“When it comes time to die, make sure all you’ve got to do is die.”

“Jesus could not be accused of false advertising… When He said, ‘If you want to be My disciple, you must give up your right to yourself and take up the cross and follow Me’ those are the conditions. You must love. ‘If you do not love your brother, you’re a murderer. If you say that you love Me, you are a liar if you don’t love your brother.’”
-Elisabeth Elliot

“The exercise of patience involves a continual practice of the presence of God; for we may be come upon at any moment for an almost heroic display of good temper, and it is a short road to unselfishness, for nothing is left to self; all that seems to belong most intimately to self, to be self’s private property, such as time, home, and rest, are invaded by these continual trials of patience.  The family is full of such opportunities.”  -F.W. Faber

“Character is what we are in the dark when no one but God is watching.  Anyone can look good in front of an audience, or even in front of their friends.  It’s an entirely different thing to stand naked before God, to be known as you truly are on the inside.”
-Randy Alcorn

“Peace is not needing to know
what will happen next.”

Many people speak of their deep-seated feelings of disappointment due to the perceived current state of affairs in America.  [We] believe the path to a freer, more family-friendly America is open.  Will it be a long and difficult path to renewal?  Yes.  We must not forget, however, that we champion the work of Christ, who has conquered evil.  We espouse truth which darkness cannot hide. The Rev. John Witherspoon eloquently said, “If your cause is just, if your principles are pure, and if your conduct is prudent, you need not fear the multitude of opposing hosts.”  Witherspoon made the aforementioned claim at a Princeton University lecture hall brimming with eager young men—most of whom would leave that lecture hall to fight in an epic struggle for life and liberty, the Revolutionary War. Maintaining our liberties, at times, may seem like an unremitting contest, but let us not forget that we plead the cause that shall prevail.

“In marriage, it takes three to tango: The husband, the wife, and God.”
-Dustin Blumenstein

“We as Christians need the Gospel every single day!”
-Joshua Harris

“You cannot make men good by law: and without good men you cannot have a good society.”  -C.S. Lewis

Trust
When you live every hour
by the grace of God’s power
And know He will guide you aright
Then day in and day out
faith is stronger than doubt,
And faith puts your worries to flight.
When you walk down life’s road
And in spite of your load
Rejoice every step of the way,
In your heart you will feel
God is present and real
And not untold eons away.
-Jon Gilbert (Adapted)

“The possession of the Lord’s best is frequently sacrificed on the altar of the world’s music.  When a life is consumed with the sensuous sound of the world, there is little room for music which reflects the character of God.  …The wrong kind of music can drag you down.  The right kind of music can build you up and cause your mind and heart to reflect upon God’s goodness.  The wrong kind of music can weigh heavily on your emotions without your conscious awareness.  It can cause your thoughts to reflect the world’s philosophy.  The right kind of music, in the character of its sound alone, has the ability to teach you about the Lord and allow your thoughts to dwell on Him.”

-Frank Garlock and Kurt Woetzel, Music in the Balance

“Sacred music is not for entertainment.

Christian music is first and foremost a vehicle for praise unto the Lord.”

-Frank Garlock and Kurt Woetzel, Music in the Balance

“The church must never sing its message to the music of the world.”
-Fanny Crosby

“True hymn writers have not primarily sought to write hymns, but to know God; and knowing Him, they could not but sing.”

-Samuel Smiles
