Do you know Christ?

“There’s a rough and winding road ahead
Doubt and fear behind
And a thirsting in my soul
That I cannot satisfy…”
(from “To Know Christ“, copyright 1998 This Hope)

The C in YLCF stands for Christian. Not only because we are Christian young ladies, but because we believe that only in Christ can we enjoy true fellowship (1 John 1:7).

You are free to read these pages even if you do not claim the name of Christ. But we would beg you to consider the question, “Do I know Christ?” It’s the most important question there is. And one every person will have to face sooner or later (Hebrews 9:27). But death gives no second chances. Don’t wait until you are entering an eternity without Him to confess Christ as Lord (Romans 14:10-12)!

How can you know Christ? Getting close to God is something that every human being that ever was has been designed to desire, and something of the utmost preciousness to God Himself. He makes it very easy for us–He reveals Himself in the beautiful world that He has made and in the hearts and lives of people who have heeded His call and given their lives and love to Him. But the very most reliable way of getting to know Him is through the Bible, His Word to mankind.

In the Bible we see His great story for the human race unfold: the fall of man through sin and the devastating consequence of separation from Him–man’s own choice through rebellion and passed on in human nature ever since. And then there is the enormous and truly staggering remedy, the sacrifice of His Own Son to satisfy the righteous requirements of His essence, His nature, if you will, of justice and righteousness. God’s perfect justice and God’s perfect mercy united in one act of unimaginable love to mankind on the cross of Jesus Christ. His death in our place, taking the punishment that we all deserve through the breaking of God’s holy laws and commandments, is the bridge that spans the chasm between God and us, and all that we are required to do in order to cross that bridge and come to know God, is to believe. Believe that Jesus is God’s Son and that His death in our place was the only sacrifice holy enough to atone for all the sins that had ever been committed and ever would be committed in the history of the world.

Here are some verses in the book of Romans to look at:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

“‘Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” (Romans 10:13)

“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10)

And this promise from the book of Revelation:

“Behold I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him…” (Revelation 3:20)

God’s promise to us is that if we seek for Him we will find Him. He wants you to be close to Him even more that you want it. No amount of church attendance or good deeds can replace or compare to truly knowing God through Jesus Christ. And when we know Him we begin to learn what pleases Him, what kind of “ideas and ideals” help us to live in such a way that we can be close to Him. A leap of faith is all that is required on our part, a taking of that free gift of God’s love and salvation.

Read through the Gospels and ask God to show you His love and His plan. Read the Psalms and see His great tenderness towards the confusion and pain of man, and His great goodness. Talk to God; pray; ask Him to help you begin a relationship with Him. Tell Him that you believe in Him and in His Son Jesus Christ. Spend time with Him–in the Bible and in prayer–as you would with any loved person that you want to get to know.

We here at YLCF are praying for each and every person who visits this website–praying that you will not leave this page without considering the question, “Do I know Christ?”

Please, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them.

Know that you are being prayed for.

“I want to know Christ
And all the rest I count as loss
I want to know Jesus
And the power of the cross
He gave His life
A ransom for us
I want to know my Savior
I want to know Christ.”
(from the chorus of “To Know Christ“, copyright 1998 This Hope)
