All Things New

Once upon a time, there was a girl whose name ought to have been “I Can’t.” She began walking when she was about seven months old, an experiment she quickly nixed for several more months, due to some phenomenon called gravity that kept getting in the way. She began learning to ride a bike when she was about seven years old, but ran into the same phenomenon, and applied the same remedy.  When she began driving….same story.

An entire life’s experience to prove the fact that “I can’t” seems like a good reason to say it, don’t you think?

By the time she was about seventeen, our heroine added a new slogan to her arsenal: “That’s dumb.” It would have worked great for deflecting any baffling new concept that came along, but for some reason, her dear patient schoolteacher combated this slogan with all her considerable love of learning. As a result, Miss “That’s Dumb” got a few clues before she left high school, and even began to like learning…just a little.

At about that time, she ran into Someone Else. This Someone had a mind-boggling amount of creativity to lavish on new concepts to learn, and before she could help herself, she fell in love with Him to such an extent that she began to love learning things about Him.  It didn’t prevent her, however, from applying said slogan to the idea of going to college.

At about that time, she ran into a Fascinating Place, full of a mind-boggling amount of things to explore, and before she could help herself, she fell in love with it, too. There was only one catch: to stay there, she needed to go to college. I think Someone was chuckling, don’t you?

These days, our heroine is amazed and blessed to be making her living by learning and teaching and writing.

Who says God isn’t in the miracle business anymore?
