The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don’t know what they’re doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino.

Over second and third cups flow matters of high finance, high state, common gossip and low comedy. [Coffee] is a social binder, a warmer of tongues, a soberer of minds, a stimulant of wit, a foiler of sleep if you want it so. From roadside mugs to the classic demi-tasse, it is the perfect democrat.

This coffee falls into your stomach, and straightway there is a general commotion. Ideas begin to move like the battalions of the Grand Army of the battlefield, and the battle takes place. Things remembered arrive at full gallop, ensuing to the wind. The light cavalry of comparisons deliver a magnificent deploying charge, the artillery of logic hurry up with their train and ammunition, the shafts of with start up like sharpshooters. Similes arise, the paper is covered with ink; for the struggle commences and is concluded with torrents of black water, just as a battle with powder.

mmm…mmm…Coffee. I first discovered it as a Teacher and it has served me well as a wife and mama
It’s not a coincidence that Coffee Mugs are one of the most popular teacher gifts.
Would you believe it, Gretchen, that I am only now beginning to develop a taste for coffee, mochas, and the like? Starbucks and Sonic’s Java chillers can take the credit for doing it =)
you’re funny…however, i do agree! i recently tried decaf plunger coffee for the first time in forever and i obviously have refined my tastes over the years because it was just.not.right. there was no smell and no taste and…yep, it’s just not coffee!
Those are so funny!
ahhh Coffee yumm!! that's one of my favorite drinks besides water and juice and diet soda
lol
ahh coffee is so good in the morning better than at night
i used to drink for awhile my coffee with splenda and SF cream, yikes it just wasn't the same, so i went back to my regular coffee with regular Irish Cream and 2 teaspoons of sugar and a dash of Starbucks SF syrup..as you see i like it really sweet
but the regular cream and sugar in my book can't be replaced with anything in this world..AND regular coffee is the spice of life
i can't stand the decaf coffees!
and i love Starbucks
thanks for this great post and for the wonderful quotes
this is such a nice post Gretchen!
thank you
Blessings & HUGS!
