I was thinking along the same line as we talked to my grandparents on the phone the other night. We don't see them often--they live on the other side of the country--and my grandfather is starting to sound old even on the phone. He is not young anymore (82), and your post is a good reminder to savor each moment when I do see him. As you said, each visit may be the last.

Each Christmas I wonder if it's my grandma's last. She's 96 and lives with us. Each night I wonder if after she has wished me love her lips will than be greeting Jesus. I can't bear the pain of her leaving us but long for her to be free of her aches and pains.

I've been thinking about this type of thing a lot these past few days. My husband and I are leaving for a year- going on the mission field. I'm excited but as I was writing out birthday cards for my nieces and scrawled "Happy 4th Birthday" across them- my heart broke. A year is a long time for a little one...

The last time I left my grandfather died. I came home and got married and he wasn't there to see it.

Yet, you're right: "Blessed be the name of the Lord."
We are so blessed to have each moment. And there is all eternity to savor the greatness of our God.
