I wanted to mention one of my favorite websites to you all–again. It’s been awhile, so those of you who have not joined yet need a prod that direction. In the year I’ve been a member on Paperback Swap more than 80 books have made their way to me, while I sent over 80 books to new homes. Hard to believe, but I have obtained so many treasures through this site–all for the price of mailing a book.My recent finds included a gorgeous book on weddings by Victoria magazine, a couple books in the History of Middle Earth series by Christopher Tolkien, and the Dragon King trilogy by Stephen Lawhead. Believe it or not, as I sat here typing up this post I received an email saying my wish for Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline had been fulfilled. I’m thrilled to pieces because that title is invaluable to the study on the spiritual disciplines/monasticism that I am exploring; I read it in college but did not let myself pay full-price for it. Patience rewarded!
I swapped out a half dozen books of various genres that I had picked up at thrift stores for a quarter. After awhile you begin to learn what books are requested and which ones to bypass. Lately I have been getting requests to mail books literally every day. The post office down the road knows me well!
So if you are not yet a member, why not join now? You do not even have to mail any books to request your first two titles–post ten books and you automatically get two free credits to request any book you like.

We’ve been on PBS since May of 2007, I believe.
Isn’t it the greatest place, ever?
I’ve found so many of Elisabeth Elliot’s books that I had been wanting and other books that have blessed me immensely. And despite a high number on the waiting lists for books, I’ve gone ahead and added myself to that long waiting list and been surprised by actually getting the book after all!
And like you, I’ve picked up books at thrift stores for very cheap, put them on PBS and quite a few have been “snatched” up immediately.
Oh, the joy of it all! *smile*
Our name is peculiartreasure if you’re interested in adding Jaclynn and me as a buddy.

How odd that you should mention Richard Foster’s “Celebration of Discipline” in this post. It is one of the few books that I consider worthy of full-price. Only several days ago, I gave a beautiful red-covered copy to a young person entering adulthood. “Celebration of Discipline” is a book that I strive to read every year or so, and its timeless truths convict and exhort me through each reading…
My copy is buried in my boxes of books that await the not-yet-built custom bookshelves. Methinks I should hunt it down.
Thanks for the reminder!

I have you to thank for directing me to Paperback Swap earlier
.
I don’t have that many books to swap, because I am pretty careful what I buy, and I generally want to keep all I have!
But I hope to be able to get together others to post soon.
Thanks again for the reminder!
Hi Natalie,
Thanks for sharing this. I have been using a similar site at http://www.bookmooch.com to trade books. Have you heard of it? It’s pretty good as well. I’ve received over 40 books there.
