Finding families for orphans

I first heard about Holt International at a concert in January. Back in 1955 after the Korean war, a couple with six children from Oregon petitioned for an act of Congress to allow them to adopt 8 orphans from Korea. Thus began Holt International, which has now placed over 60,000 orphans into loving families all over the world.

Not everyone can adopt a child, but one thing I can do as a single girl is provide the financial support for an orphan to receive food and medical care while waiting to be adopted. They have the opportunity to be in a loving home environment (foster families) until they are adopted. One of my close friends from Korea was placed by Holt years ago…when I learned this it made their work all the more real–it has changed lives of loved ones.

My little boy is Yue Ling from China. He turned 2 on May 3rd and he is so precious! He does not like dogs, is able to walk on his own now, and has the cutest little nose I’ve ever seen! I may not meet him on this earth, but for now he is mine to pray for and support. I thank God He has given me this opportunity to help “one of the least of these.”

View the children waiting for a sponsor.

Thats so wonderful….I’ll certianlly pray about helping one of these dear children. God’s blessed us so deeply in America, the least we can do is share those blessings with others.

    Very neat!

I have sponsored orphaned Haitian twins (a boy and a girl) through “Love a Child” since they were tiny newborns. They are now almost 2-1/2 years old, and as cute as buttons. It’s so great to see photos of their adorable smiles.

I’ve recently started sponsoring a child through “Bridge of Hope”, a side branch of Gospel for Asia (www.gfa.org).

What a neat idea! Thanks for posting on this, Natalie!

Thank you so much for posting about adoption. My family adopted two children from Russia last year and it is always exciting to see others bringing these sweet orphans to the front for us to pray for and remember. You’re right, not everyone can adopt. It has been the most painful thing our family has ever done. It’s exciting to be reminded, though, of ways we can support the children right now. Thanks, Natalie

I’m still tickled about you knowing of Holt International. You know their work is close to my heart. :)

I didn’t know you could support little orphans through them. I will have to check into that. And perhaps someone–like you–sent money that in turn supported me when I was a baby. I was never in an orphanage–I was placed with a foster family, who loved me very much. My mom tells me how she knew I was very well loved and cared for when she got me because not only was I extremely chubby :D , but it was obvious that I was used to being held constantly! Awww.

    Thanks for posting this, Nat!
