This is something I learned long ago but was reminded of anew last week. I commented to Gretchen that I should write a book on that topic. She suggested a blog post might be more feasible.
Have you ever slipped into the frustrating cycle of starting the day with checking email which reminds you of another task requiring urgent attention…which leads to another job and on and on until the morning is gone and you realize you never had your time alone with God?
Take my word for this: once you check email, your day begins in full force. These days I do not turn on my computer until I know I am ready to face the day–sometimes this is early in the morning and sometimes it is not until afternoon. What matters most is that my devotions are completed, my heart is at peace with God, and my mind is ready to work.
Try it and see if you don’t feel more productive and peaceful–don’t check email before your devotions!

I think I needed to hear that today! Thank-you.
So true! A reminder I needed!
I was without internet access for the last couple of days while I moved to a new apartment. I noticed that my life has been a bit less hectic as a result. It’s nice to step away from technology periodically and refocus on what’s truly important.
Excellent reminder and very timely!! I’d just been thinking on not so much the email aspect of your point but at least the thought of morning prayers before beginning too much of the day, so it’s nice to see your affirming post!

Right on. Thank you for reminding me of this; it really messes up my day when I get involved in email, blogging, etc. before my devotions!!
Thanks so much for the timely reminder! I am afraid I have been doing a form of that- Blogging before Bible.
Growing up we were not allowed to read another book before we had read our Bible. I have also heard the helpful maxim “Bible before Breakfast”. I suppose it all depends on what is your particular weakness- reading, blogging, eating, etc.
Anyway, thanks again, and Lord helping it will be Bible before Blogging for me!
How strange that you should post this topic. My family just started doing that a week ago. It has been so helpful.
Thanks for posting it.
I will take this advice !
Amen sister! So true. And that goes for more then just the internet and computer, but anything that distracts you from your time with Christ! Without that time, you can not truly function as a daugheter of God!
Thanks Natalie!

Thank you so much for that reminder!!! It is so very true.
The day just doesn’t seem to go right unless devotions are done first!
So timely and so true. Thanks, Natalie.
