A Summer Morning Treat

Here is one of our favorite hot weather breakfasts:

Fruit Smoothies

1 cup lowfat vanilla yogurt
1 cup frozen fruit–bluberries, strawberries, raspberries, peaches…
1 banana

Mix well in a blender and pour into a tall glass. Makes one serving.

I often throw in a tablespoon or so of flax oil when Philip’s not looking, just to make it that much more healthy
and he never knows the difference. ;)

We like that fact that it’s so portable, and often enjoy this easy breakfast on the porch or in the yard. Best served with a steaming mug of good green tea…

Very nice! My favorite breakfast is actually red grapes mixed with plain yogurt and a little Splenda. Somewhat similar, but that way it has more protein and less sugar. :D

I suppose plain yogurt is an acquired taste, but it is good when sweetened. :)

I love to eat something very much like that nearly every morning, but with added walnuts, oat bran, a can of pineapple, dry milk powder, sugar-free pancake syrup, and Splenda (sugar substitute)…for extra health and taste! :-)

Yummmm — I love smoothies! It’s amazing what interesting combinations one can create that actually taste good! The possiblities are endless. These blender breakfasts are great ways to hide over-ripe fruit…and you can disguise wheat germ quite nicely too. :o )

    Thanks Lanier, for the post!

This has been by after-work/before-dinner treat several times per week lately. I don’t measure, but it comes out something like that. Sometimes I throw some orange juice in too.

My Mom and I serve that kind of fruit smoothie quite often. Another staple favorite with our family is banana peanut butter smoothies. Here’s the recipie:
    1 c. yogurt
4 T. peanut butter (the natural kind is best)
    1 T. of ground flax
    1 1/2-2 (frozen) bananas
    1 cup soy milk
    Blend thoroughly and enjoy! :-)

Sounds good Lanier, and Jenna. :-) We make various fruit smoothies frequently. My favorite is 1/4 pineapple, 1/2 apple, 1/2 orange, 1/2 lemon, 1 banana, handful grapes, lots of frozen strawberries. You can cut down the recipe for smaller families, and also omit ingredients, or add others…it always varies a little depending on what’s on hand! :-)
