Three walls!

My grandpa farmed for a livin’,
Content to live the simpler kind of life.
My grandma worked in the kitchen,
Awfully proud to be that farmer’s wife.
They used to say that they’d got everything that they need,
Each mornin’ they wake up:
Four walls, three words, two hearts, one love.
-Randy Travis, “Four Walls

We have three walls! Number four will go up tomorrow, Lord willing.

I just talked to my man. Our little home is going up quickly! After all these years of hoping and praying, it’s all coming together so fast!

Today I was reading through old journal entries (some of which I posted in the YLCF blog archives today, in case you’re ever inclined to go read old entries), and was reliving all the times we’ve prayed about the drain field, wondered where we’d live, and pleaded with God to let it happen sooner than later.

And here we are, getting married in just 6 weeks. My dreams come true, my prayers answered: a home with my love…

Last week Merritt wrote me, “I think I’ll learn a lot about how Jesus feels as He is preparing a home for His bride. The love and care which He is putting in our eternal home, the anticipation of bringing His beloved home, are all things that in a very small way I can experience. What an awesome picture and example it is to me! How much better I can understand His love for me as I work out my love for you! What a beautiful thing our love is, even flawed and selfish as it is, it’s still a picture of our Savior’s love for us…”

I grow ever more thankful for this godly man…

Six weeks, wow. Nervous? Or just happy? I think I would be nervous too.

I’ve wanted to marry him for ten years, Sarah. Why would I be nervous now? :)

I’s just very, very happy!!! :)

    Gretchen,

It’s so encouraging to me to see, you both have waited 10 years!

I seem to see quite a few stories, where couples had only known each other a very short time before they were married. -nothing wrong with that, but it’s refreshing for me to see waiting on God’s perfect timing. . .and being WILLING to wait that long. (I think of that beautiful statement in Genesis 29:20 “And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.” -perfect love!)

I’m so excited for you and Merritt! -building a home is a long process, but exciting and fun too! :-)

May the Lord RICHLY bless you both!

When will the house be finished? And are you going to have internet?

I am so happy for you! I, too am encouraged that you have waited on God’s perfect timing.

I like that song! Sounds like a lot of progress is being made on your house! You must get more excited each day and rejoicing with your man as it is built up. What a great parallel too, that Merritt shared!

10 Years! That is just so amazing! I don’t think I’d be able to wait that long! Did you actually know from the moment you met? Or was it just a hunch?

Merissa, you can check out our courtship story on the courtship story page… I wouldn’t say I knew from the moment we met, but I had a major hunch after the second time we saw each other. ;)

Merritt’s parallel is something that I have been studying! :) I have been reading about the Jewish customs of betrothal and how they parallel with Scripture…
    Very fascinating I must say!
