Wise Up!

Contemporary and yet not all fluff, I found myself wanting to keep my hands on this nine-week Bible study on Proverbs called Wise Up! Rebecca Ingram Powell is a wife and mom with a heart for discipling young women. If I have the chance to lead a Bible study for pre-teen girls I would want to use this as a tool, if not the basis of the study.

The subtitle is Experience the Power of Proverbs; and while not every chapter and verse is studied, Powell hits many of the highlights and focuses on making the principles in-your-face applicable to young girls. The oversize, user-friendly book includes daily lessons, optional weekend assignments for further study, Scripture memory, and an emphasis on prayer–something that is lacking too often in the studies for pre-teens.

Girls will like the multitude of personal stories, cheery design, and the encouragement to write–somehow the very nature of Wise Up! begs to be filled in brightly colored gel pens!

Note: Powell does address abstinence, purity, and eating disorders among other topics; though geared for 6th-9th grade young ladies, I would still recommend that parents preview the study before giving it to their girl. Ideally, the mother and daughter could do through it together.
