I read this story and had tears in my eyes. I then read it to my wife. When I finished she said to me that she was worth nothing. Both of us come from alcoholic and abusive backgrounds. So this story had meaning for us both. Neither of us were told we were worth anything of value or special when we were kids and into our adult lives. I have a daughter from my first marriage, I tried my best to make her feel loved, special and worth more than all the riches of the world. My now 2nd wife never had children during her 1st marriage. Our previous spouses cheated on us and made us feel that we weren't worth being loyal to. My wife has a disorder called Borderline Personality Disorder. Since I met her I have tried to make her feel special, loved and worth Eight-Cows or more. But because of her disorder there is an ingrained lack of self-worth. She tells me how wonderful I am and special to her. Yet, she can't accept and maintain anything I tell her. I become saddened that she can't see just how special and intelligent she really is.
