I’ll be a Christian nun…

I’ll be a Christian nun,
The next Maria Von Trapp.
But just Maria, for I’ve
No man for whom to set my cap.

I’ll be a nanny,
But I won’t fall in love.
I’ll be a princess,
But no prince win the heart of.

I’ll be Jo March,
A great and famous writer—
But I’ll skip the book,
With the good professor.

I’ll be Josh Harris,
And kiss dating goodbye.
But “Boy Meets Girl”
Shan’t be my title by and by.

I’ll be Higgins’ fair lady,
Wait on him hand and foot,
But never shall I wed him—
Or in a movie I’d be put!

I’ll be Mary with no Joseph,
Esther without a king.
I’ll be Ruth but with no Boaz.
I’ve no love of which to sing.

I’ll be a single, senile Lucy;
I’ll be Wilma with no Fred.
I’ll be an old spinster;
I’ll never share a bed.

I’ll be single my whole life,
Watching love all around me.
Wanting to be married,
But not finding matrimony.

I’ll be Lady Liberty herself,
Free from all wifely cares.
But in the worst of dungeons,
With no one to dry my tears.

Yes, I’ll be Mary Poppins!
Bert shall be my friend.
But I shall be single
Until the very end.
